New Zealand Imports Food And Water From China

Many Australian territories like South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and New Zealand imports food and water from China. China is popularly know in manufacturing world class food products from well-known brands so majority of developed countries import food from China. However, the incidence of the melamine content in milk products some years ago raised vigilance from consumers, including all constituents of the Australian territories who condemned the idea of having their candies or milk products laced with melamine. At a certain period, all dairy products even chocolates or confectioneries with milk content made from China were banned in New Zealand as well as Australia. A more rigorous regulatory framework and FSANS- Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code was subsequently created by the two countries. As a result, Australian territories became more strict in taking imported food especially from China.

All food products coming into New Zealand and Australian territories is required to be pre-assessed by the FSANS. It also required by law that all food products should be labeled adequately in English. To warrant the safety of the consumers, information like the expiry date, nutritional facts and ingredients should be included in the food label. Products like eggs, beef, pork, tropical fruits and vegetables, salmon and oysters are allowed as long as it is under a very strict control from Australian quarantine authorities. The existing AFSC (Australian Food Standards Code) which is implemented by all Australian territories, this regulates all food imports and determines the maximum levels of contaminants and metals as well agricultural chemicals in food products.

Food as well as wine is also being exported from China to Australia. Stated by reports, Australia became the second largest exporter of bottled water from China. Japan formerly dominated the Australian wine market, however, China took over as it has the largest export base. The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation has expanded its wine export to China more than 15 times in the past five years according to data. A strong and healthy relationship between China and Australia is expected in the future as as both trade partner complies with the food regulations in importing and exporting food and water products.
